A world first at Coco Safar

April 6, 2018

Just when you thought you had done the cold brew coffee, the rooibos espresso or the rooibos latte or any other new way to drink your coffee or tea, Coco Safar develops a new one – a world first, in fact. After fifteen years of research and development Coco Safar launched their non-alcoholic botanical micro-brewery on 22 March 2018. Based on Rooibos and coffee extractsthis in-house micro-brewery offers a selection of lightly sparkling bottled drinks that can be enjoyed at Coco Safar’s especially designed bar or taken home to be enjoyed at your leisure.

From their press release: There is a rich and refreshing Red Rooibos Cold Brew, a subtle and herbaceous Green Rooibos Cold Brew, an elegant and invigorating Coffee-Citrus Cold Brew and a complex and timeless Rooibos-Infused Tonic Water, all of which are now available for purchase to be enjoyed at home in beautifully designed copper-foiled Coco Safar bottles, which also comes in a convenient 4-pack bottle carrier.

The Coffee Route was lucky enough to receive VIP invitations to attend the launch. Servers offered four glasses on Coco Safar’s signature trays for tasting. There were lovely snacks and some great Latin American live music.

But what really caught the eye (and sometimes the shoulder) were the four models, each dressed in amazing botanical headdresses created by Jacques Lagrange in custom couture, a well-known Cape Town based couture fashion designer who has shown his collections around the world. The colours, and choice of flowers and botanicals, and the style of the headpieces and dresses, were created to capture the personality of each new bottled drink and give guests an idea of what went into creating each of the drinks.

The rooibos is brewed for 96 hours, but with zero % alcohol, while the coffee is brewed for 24 hours. The tonic water is infused with rooibos and can be served perfectly chilled, on tap. There is also a bar where one can sit and watch the mixologists whip up the most decadent haute couture floats, using gelato and sorbets made in the on-site Atelier. Drinks are sweetened only with a tiny bit of signature Canadian maple syrup.
