"This is the “go to” book for the hottest coffee spots in Cape Town. Not only is it clear and concise with helpful maps, but it doubles up as a gorgeous coffee table book with it’s gorgeous photography!" Mrs. Burke, Gardens, Cape Town

                        A BOOK BY
Yvette Wilsenach (Writer) and Nicky Elliott (Photographer)

This book is about great places to drink coffee.  However, the focus is not exclusively on the coffee; it is also about the ambiance, the food (if it plays a part), the owners, the position, and we deal with some of the practicalities. We have chosen some of our favourite places that have appealed to us in some way.  They always serve good coffee, but that’s not the only reason one goes out for coffee – it is the whole package.

So we have focused on the independent and quirky - no chains, no malls. The book is also a tribute to the men and women who work really hard at selecting, roasting and brewing great coffee, while also providing fabulous food and interesting spaces.

The book was inspired by a visit from an English friend who remarked on the sheer variety of coffee shops on offer – each doing their own thing, and doing it well.  In that sense the coffee scene in Cape Town is a reflection of the individualism of the Mother City and a further cause for celebration, exploration and pure enjoyment.

Nicky, who is known for her warmth and rapport with her subjects, has captured the essence of Cape Town's flourishing coffee culture in her wonderful photographs. She and Yvette get to explore and find new shops, taste wonderful coffee and food and get to know the owners.  The coffee and the shops are not rated, as it is felt that each has something unique to offer.

There is a map at the beginning of each section to help you find shops that may be new to you, or to plan your outings using this as a guide to your next ‘fix’.

The publication is updated annually and makes for the perfect guide and gift for locals as well as for out of town visitors.

Our publication is available at several stockists (Exclusive Books, Wordsworth Books, Bargain Books, Biblophelia Bookshop, Clarke's Bookshop, to name a few) across the Cape Peninsula, including the featured coffee shops.

Yvette studied Economics and Maths at UCT, but also loves languages, different cultures and particularly the sub-culture of COFFEE. She is an ecclectic mix of brains and ballet and her ability, agility and humour is the glue that binds the pages. A chance comment by a visiting friend led to the idea of the book. Come and join the Coffee-ride.
Nicky studied Graphic Design and Photography at UCT (although that was in "The Dark-Room Age' and she said she had to completely re-train to bring herself into the 'Digital Dawn' for this book). She is a serial entrepeneur and her rapport with people and her love of photography and design is evident thoughout the book and the website.
